A New Training Center “Care from Birth at Home” Opened at DSMU
On 14 August, a modern training and resource center was launched at Dnipro State Medical University with the support of UNICEF (the United Nations Children’s Fund) and the NGO In Touch Ukraine Foundation.
This is a landmark event for Ukraine as part of the further development of a network of unified spaces aimed at implementing the universal-progressive home visiting model for families with children from birth to three years old.
Despite the challenges of war, the health and well-being of children remain a top priority for the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. The primary goal of the universal-progressive model is to protect and strengthen the health and well-being of young children in close connection with the well-being of parents and their immediate environment.
The new patronage model “Care from Birth at Home” is a joint project of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and UNICEF, launched in 2022 and currently implemented in 12 pilot regions of Ukraine (Volyn, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Zhytomyr, Zakarpattia, Kirovohrad, Lviv, Poltava, Chernihiv, and Kyiv regions, as well as the city of Kyiv).
The training and resource center consists of two dedicated spaces: a training zone and a simulation zone. The training zone will provide students and medical personnel with theoretical knowledge and practical skills to improve the quality of healthcare and caregiving. The simulation zone is designed for hands-on learning of newborn care standards, breastfeeding, sanitation, hygiene, positive parenting, and vaccination. It also offers opportunities to practice emergency care and acquire other essential skills required to ensure high-quality care for newborns and children under the age of three.
